It’s been a record-setting hot summer! According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the last 12 months in the U.S. have been the warmest since 1895, when they first started keeping records.
Here in Ohio, we broke a record for the warmest January to June period in 118 years.
As you can see by the chart below, this year’s 90-degree days started in May and are continuing through the summer. We’ve also had a few days where the temperature reached 100 degrees or greater!

As I’m sure you’re aware, weather is a significant factor in your daily energy usage.
So, most likely your air conditioning has been running constantly, resulting in a higher electric bill. Since you’ve likely been using a lot more electricity than normal, I wanted to share some ideas with you on how to reduce your energy usage and ways to manage your bill.

Save Energy, Save Money
Now would be a great time to check our energy-saving tips here on the website -- many are low cost, or even free.
- Schedule a Tune-Up of your air conditioner.
- Get a DP&L rebate on a new, energy efficient heat pump or central air conditioner for your home.
- Remove sources of heat in your home or business. Replace heat-producing incandescent or halogen light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and reduce energy usage at the same time. DP&L offers discounts on CFLs at a retailer near you. and business rebates.
Take the Surprise Out of Your Electric Bill
Budget billing makes your electric bill more predictable. Sign up for DP&L Budget Billing and you’ll pay the same amount each month, regardless of your usage — one-twelfth of your annual estimated usage.

During the year, we’ll keep a running account balance, which you’ll see on your bill. We’ll continue to review your budget amount and make adjustments if necessary. Both residential and business customers in good standing are eligible. Learn more about budget billing.
Payment Options and Plans
DP&L offers a number of payment options and there are a number of payment assistance programs available from the State of Ohio to help customers manage their electric bills.
