DP&L contracts line clearance work to professional tree-trimming companies. All work is done in accordance with the National Arborists' Association and the International Society of Arboriculture's recommended standards. Our goal is to keep trees alive and healthy as well as to ensure reliable power to your home.

Hiring Your Own Contractor

Customers can hire a certified tree service, at their own expense, to prune a tree slated for trimming by DP&L, if:

  1. The contractor is certified to work near power lines;
  2. The customer or contractor notifies DP&L when and where the trimming will take place (call 888-582-3213); and
  3. The limb removal plan meets the standards for power line clearance and safety.

Call 888-582-3213 to get a list of local contractors that are certified and specially trained to work near power lines. Tree trimmers who are not certified to work near live power lines must stay at least 10 feet from any energized conductor at all times.
